Vancouver is a vibrant, diverse city with so much to offer, whether you're into outdoors activities, arts, culture, dining, and much more. Here are a few suggestions from our residents!

Granville Island

Granville Island is a small island located in False Creek, which has lots to offer in food, arts & culture, and shopping.

Check out the Farmer's Market, go to the Brewery, and do some shopping.

Check out https://granvilleisland.com/ for more info.

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is a world-renowned urban park located right next to downtown Vancouver. It's one of the largest in the world (even larger than Central Park!).

Rent a bike and take a ride along the Seawall, down to English Bay, and grab some food in the area. You can also wander through the park and visit the Vancouver Aquarium.

In the summer, they play free movies at night in one of the fields. Check out http://www.freshaircinema.ca/summercinema/ for info!

Kitsilano & Main Street

Kitsilano is a cute neighbourhood located west of VGH, and Main Street is a bit east.

They both have lots of cute shopping and food options. Go for brunch, spend the day shopping along 4th Avenue or Main Street, and grab some ice cream (at Rain or Shine if you're in Kits) or donuts (from Lucky's in Main Street)

Beaches

Vancouver is home to some fantastic beaches for you to relax in the sun (when it's not raining).

Kitsilano Beach is the easiest accessed from the VGH area, and it also features a freshwater pool if you don't want to swim in the ocean. There are also free community concerts (visit https://kitsilanoshowboat.com/schedule)

Other beaches are English Bay, Jericho, Spanish Banks, and Wreck (located near the UBC campus -- fair warning, it's clothing optional). For more info on these beaches, visit the City of Vancouver's website.

Gastown

Gastown is another of Vancouver's neighbourhoods, full of excellent nightlife. There's a bunch of great pubs, cocktail bars, and restaurants around here.

Visit Keefer Bar, The Diamond, The Pourhouse, or many others! There's also trivia at a lot of pubs on various nights if that's your thing.

Food

Vancouver has a world-class diverse food scene for every cuisine imaginable. Check out https://www.eater.com/vancouver for some recommendations! The list below is far from comprehensive. Ask the residents for their current favourite spots!

  • Miku and Minami are fancy sushi spots, located at Canada Place and Yaletown respectively

  • Literally any hole in the wall sushi place has crazy delicious sushi. Around VGH, check out Masa or Minato

Tacos

  • Tacofino in Gastown has great tacos and is relatively easy to get into

  • La Taqueria is a cute spot close to VGH (at Broadway and Cambie)

Ramen

  • Santouka Hokkaida (on Broadway at Ash), Taishoken in Gastown, or Danbo in Kits
